Well, that's not entirely true. Back in 2000 I went to E3 as a member of the press when I was working for an online video game magazine, but it's a trade show and not exactly a typical con. I've picked a bit of a doozey, in terms of size, as my first. This weekend I will be attending Dragon*Con in Atlanta. Unlike my other trips, I won't be traveling alone, but instead nerding it up with some friends. I have certain things I'd like to see, and there are a few writing workshops I'd like to attend, but since I'm going with a group I don't know exactly how much I'll have to sacrifice for the greater good, and how often I'll just end up going solo. For the most part, I just want to try and have fun and take lots of pictures. I'll try to update the blog as things go, but I've got a feeling free time and sleep are going to be in constant demand.
There are a few new things I'm trying out on this trip. First off I bought an iPad (used, cause I'm cheap) and an Eye-Fi card (refurb, again cause I'm cheap) which will allow me to wirelessly upload pictures from my camera to the iPad which should allow me to bypass some of the issues getting photos uploaded I ran into during the train trip. I also picked up a really cheap bluetooth keyboard so I'm not trying to write posts on a touchscreen. It was really cheap because it was huge and fucking ugly, but I've gutted and butchered it so now it's just ugly. This will be a good test run to see how these new toys work in the field. More to come...
